This week in Castle Rock…

Crew News

The Town of Castle Rock put together a short clip that they shared to their Instagram this past week which highlighted their most important achievements of 2024 along with what they’re going to be focused on in 2025. Press here to watch it on their IG.

Their top three milestones were the below:

Broke ground on its top transportation priority, the Crystal Valley Interchange, which will significantly improve transportation throughout Town and beyond. This new interchange at I-25 and Crystal Valley Parkway is expected to be completed in 2027. Road Enhancement – 47 lane-miles of roadway treated in 2024 under the Pavement Maintenance Program. Central Castle Rock will be a focus for PMP in 2025. Completed construction of the “Four Corners” intersection at Fifth Street, Ridge Road, State Highway 86 and Founders Parkway. The beginning of construction on the widening of both Crowfoot Valley Road and Fifth Street (phase one of two) will begin in 2025.

Lost Canyon Ranch Open Space became the community’s largest public conservation area when the Town purchased it in 2024. The area is 681 acres and there is a master plan that is being developed to protect and preserve the site’s habitat while providing access to the public. In addition to this, Parks and Recs opened the new Emerald Park and renovated Mitchell Gulch Park. Alongside the master planning at Lost Canyon Ranch, renovations will be completed at Centennial Park and, pending Town Council approval, construction of a new sports development center will begin.

Transformed Cantril School from an underused historic building to a hub for arts and enrichment activities. There were 1,867 registered participants for programming at Cantril School in 2024, where renovating the facilities and adding restrooms, an ADA lift and check in area, and an updated kitchen were highlights of the past year. The new year will bring a Youth Commission for the Town and an effort to fund public art programs as approved by Town Council.

Other Highlights:

Police Department and Fire Department each added 3 positions. The Police Department will add 11 new positions and the Fire Department will add 10 new positions in 2025. Construction on Fire Station 156, which will serve northern Castle Rock, will begin in 2025.

Progressed on long-term water projects and partnerships in an effort to achieve goal of 100% renewable water by 2065 (you’re welcome children!). The multiyear projects of doubling capacity of the Plum Creek Water Purification Facility and constructing new reservoirs north of Sedalia will continue (completion is slated for 2027 and 2026, respectively).

In 2024, it was determined the Town was under its TABOR revenue cap by about $450,000 for 2023 and, therefore, did not have any “excess” revenue.

Budget is balanced and the hope is that 2025’s budget will be implemented in a similar fashion. To review the budget, please visit:

  • Nuggets - the Nugs improved their record to 26-16 with wins over the Mavericks, Heat, and Magic, and a loss to the Rockets. They are sitting at 4th in the Western Conference.

  • Avalanche - the Avs stayed steady and have a record of 28-19-1 with wins over the Rangers and Stars and losses to the Oilers and Wild. They are sitting at 4th in the Central Conference.
