Castle Rock Crew #008

PSA - final push this week to get property owners/business owners/renters to apply to serve on The Meadows’ Metro Boards. There was a request I saw for Metro District 5 specifically (Bucket List Tavern/Whiskey Lodge areas, residents at Talus Flats Apartments, etc.), but the more applications for each board the better. The deadline for applications is 2/28. More information here, contact Jim at [email protected] if you need more info on your specific location, and contact Katie at [email protected] to get an application.

This week is Castle Rock…

Get Plugged In

There’s a good amount of people who reach out or mention in the welcome survey that they’re looking for ways to get plugged into the community, meet new people, and/or get involved. Well, look no further than your local Rotary Clubs. There are three different Rotary Clubs serving the area: the Rotary Club of Castle Rock, the Rotary Club of Castle Rock High Noon, and the Castle Pines Rotary Club. Personally, I’ve always heard of “the local Rotary Club” no matter where I’ve lived, but never had any idea what that actually means…so, what is Rotary?

“Rotary is a global network of neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities, and ourselves.” Practically, that means a local group of people who are in the business of service to others, whether locally, regionally, or internationally. Members also improve themselves by learning, keeping up with local events, and networking. If there are 35,000 of these Clubs worldwide and over 1.2 million members, they must be doing something right…and we might not notice they’re around, but these agents of good have probably been right under our noses many different times.

Where you might run into a local Rotary Club member:

  • Running a weekly reading program with 3rd graders at Sedalia Elementary School.

  • Volunteering with the Town of Castle Rock for cleanups.

  • Serving ice cream to guests at the Castle Rock Concerts in the Park in the summer.

  • Supporting local organizations and individuals like the Youth Police Academy, The Aspen Effect, and high schoolers without the means to attend additional learning opportunities through Legacy Campus.

  • Raising funds or collecting supplies for those in need outside of the lines of Castle Rock.

Local events run by the Rotary Clubs that you may have attended (mark your calendars):

Ducky Derby – June 22nd, 2025 – Festival Park - this half mile race of 10,000 rubber duckies in Plum Creek will not disappoint. Very kid friendly with local food, arts, and crafts.

Palisades Peaches – orders in July of 2025 – pickup times and location TBD – order peaches that serve a greater purpose than just satisfying your sweet tooth!

Epic Day of Service – May 17th, 2025 – Location TBD – a service day that includes 3,000 Rotary Cubs in 10 states and 7 countries.

I’d encourage you to think about attending a local Rotary meeting as a guest (free of charge) if any of the below apply to you:

  • You’re looking for a way to connect with members of the community.

  • You’re looking for a way to serve, whether locally, regionally or internationally.

  • You’re looking to network and/or collaborate on a business idea.

  • You’re looking to level up your leadership and/or professional skills.

Who can join?

Anyone over the age of 18; although, there are different programs for young people. Anyone who is interested is more than welcome to give Steve Baroch a call at 303-909-7563.

Meeting Details:

Rotary Club of Castle Rock High Noon: Thursdays at 12:00pm at Phillip S. Miller Library – they also have a social event every third Thursday night of every month - ~12 members

A big thanks to Steve Baroch for helping me put this together!

Sports:

  • Broncos - lots of speculation going on, but nothing to report.

  • Nuggets - the Nugs nine game winning steak was snapped by Luka and the Lakers. Besides that, they’re still looking good and improved their record to 38-20 with wins over the Hornets and Pacers leading them to take second spot in the Western Conference. The Harlem Globetrotters are coming to Ball Arena on April 3rd - tickets will be open for sale in the next couple of days.

  • Avalanche - the Avs aren’t looking like themselves yet after the International Break. They’re at 33-24-2 after suffering losses to the Predators and the Blues. They still sit at 4th in the Central Conference. Canada bested the USA in an overtime win in the 4-Nations Face-off. The Avs’ very own Nathan MacKinnon was the MVP of the tournament.

  • CU Buffs - Domata Peko was hired as the Defensive Line coach. He was known as a Bengals star, but had a short stint with the Broncos in the ‘17 and ‘18 seasons. Warren Sapp has been elevated to Pass Rush Coordinator.

  • National Women’s League Soccer - they’re looking for fan input on what the team name should be. Check them out and vote here. I think they’re all horrible…so please suggest some better ones on the form they have!

  • Rapids: I think I need to watch Ted Lasso for the third time to brush up on my soccer (football?) terms…the Rapids defeated LAFC in leg 1 of the first round of the Champions Cup. The game (match?) against St. Louis resulted in a tie (draw? actually it might be “tie” in MLS). They’ll face LAFC again in leg 2 of the first round of the Champions Cup tonight. They’re 8th in the Western Conference with a record of 0-0-1 and 1 point.
