Castle Rock Crew #009

Hope you had a great 303 Day!

Second birthday shoutout goes to another one of my loved ones, Momma Tien! Of course, she’s tied with my brother-in-law for the most referrals, but some of you are getting close to catching up to them!

Featured Event

ShamROCK Stampede

Let’s ‘will’ spring to get here by getting outdoors and getting moving here on Saturday, March 15th at the ShamROCK Stampede. Whether you’re a serious runner or a leisurely walker, bring the whole family (including your dog) and join the fun. If you’re crazy enough to like running, then you’ll be happy to know you can torture yourself with either a 5k or a 10k and compete for awards for the fastest runner in different age groups (it’s also an RRCA Championship Race). But, if you detest running (like me), don’t you worry! You can walk the 5k and there’s so much more to the event than just running or walking – you can enjoy live bands (McDeviants and the Bow Tides), booths for local businesses, adult beverages (one free), SWAG including medals for adults and charms for kid, and free bagels!

If, for some reason, you weren’t convinced to sign up when I said there’ll be free bagels, then you will be after you hear about the cause the event supports. All the proceeds are benefiting It’s a Calling Foundation. It’s a Calling Foundation is an organization that is dedicated to supporting the mental and emotional well-being of first responders, frontline medical personnel, military members, and their families. They raise funds and awareness to supplement the cost of individual and couples counseling and assist with coordinating events and training in mental health. Last year the race raised enough money to cover 60 individual counseling sessions. Let’s help those who help us every day when we need it the most by participating and increasing that number this year!

So, what inspired this unusual marriage of St. Patrick’s Day and running? Well, Jason and Gina Anguiano decided to start the event to honor the life of a loved one who was born on St. Patrick’s Day and suffered from mental health issues. You may recognize Jason and Gina from the annual Turkey Trot (in its 21st year). They took over the Turkey Trot 10 years ago and have grown that event to the highest attended running event in Castle Rock with 3,200 people in attendance this past year. Through their organization Run to Change Lives, they have continued to invest in the running for a cause space and added ShamROCK Stampede in 2019 and The ROCK-IT RUN in 2021. There’s been great attendance growth over the past couple of years in the 20-30% range annually and they are looking to double the size of the races from here.

So come out and support the ShamROCK Stampede and its partners in any way that you can, whether that’s volunteering before or during the event, running or walking, enjoying the music and other festivities, or donating! Hope to see you there!

Sports:

  • Broncos - the speculation and mock drafts continue, but we continue to wait patiently.

  • Nuggets - the Nugs gave up the second spot in the Western Conference to the Lakers. They still look good, though, and were competitive against the Celtics this past Sunday. Their record is 39-22 after a win against the Pistons and losses to the Bucks and Celtics.

  • Avalanche - the Avs looked better this past week and advanced to 35-24-2 after wins over the Devils and Wild. They still sit at 4th in the Central Conference. They’re making moves and acquired defenseman Ryan Lindgren, veteran utility player Jimmy Vesey and NCAA defensive prospect Hank Kampf. The Avs gave up Juuso Parssinen, Calvin de Haan, and conditional second- and fourth-round picks in the 2025 draft.

  • Rockies - we’re a month out from the Rockies’ home opener against the Athletics on April 4th.

  • Rapids: the Rapids split matches with LAFC in the Concacaf Championship Cup, but failed to advance due to LAFC’s advantage in away goals. Although they scored three goals, they tied FC Dallas this past week. They’re 10th in the Western Conference with a record of 0-0-2 and 2 points.

  • Mammoth - our local NLL lax bros beat the Calgary Roughnecks this past weekend and now hold a record of 7-5 and are fifth in the league. They’re on the road this month, but will have home games on April 5th and 13th.
