Castle Rock Crew #015

Forgot to mention, I finally got around to trying Ito Sushi a few weeks ago and was impressed. The sushi was pretty good - good enough that I won’t be making the trek to Denver’s top sushi spots as often, and I’m a tough critic having grown up eating sushi in LA. I particularly enjoyed the 2-Toro Roll and the Mayo Roll. They also have some Chinese and Thai dishes like Orange Chicken and Curries, if you’re not a big sushi person. Likely better for groups that are four or fewer, but larger groups can be done - we had five and they pulled up a table to a booth. Others seem to be enjoying it as well, as it was pretty much full on the Wednesday evening that we were there.

I’m looking for a select group of people to be part of a “beta” group to try out the other newsletter I’m launching in addition to this one. I would love some feedback and for you to be part of the journey. Please let me know if you’re interested and I’ll contact you.

Are you willing to participate in this beta group for another newsletter I'm launching?

Adopt Pets:

Apologies for the link issue last week - there are some additional updates being rolled out to the Humane Colorado website due to a revamp after their name change, and those links got caught in the middle of one…but, we will continue to showcase cute little critters like Oreo and Shakira.

🫠

Sports:

  • Broncos - we’re less than two weeks out from the NFL draft! I’m excited to see who’s lucky enough to become a Bronco! In the meantime, the Cos signed Sam Franklin Jr. who was formerly with the Panthers. He’s a safety, but is known for his special teams play. Apparently 17 other teams were interested in him, even though his contract is a much smaller number than we’re used to seeing ($1.17mm for a one-year deal)

  • Nuggets - so that escalated quickly…anyone else caught completely off guard by the sudden firing of Coach Malone and GM Booth besides me and this woman who wanted to come home from Paris upon hearing the news? Malone had been with the Nugs for ten years and brought home a championship, but I guess ownership wanted to shake things up after the team struggled here after the All-Star break (albeit, with plenty of injuries). I’ve been watching some of the speeches from Coach Adelman - I’m uninspired to say the least; whereas, even on his departure, Coach Malone had a classy message for Nuggets fans. Now the rumor mill begins and we can be whipsawed back and forth about who’s going to be at the helm of the team next season. But, this season continues into the playoffs now where the Nuggets are the fourth seed after finishing the season 50-32. Our guys have a date with a very hot Clippers team (fifth seed) that has won 9 of its last 10.

  • Avalanche - Avs almost went winless the past three games, but scored four straight against the Ducks in the 3rd on Sunday to win 4-2. They lost to the Canucks and Kings, and wrapped up their season in the 3rd spot in the Central Division with a record of 49-29-4. A familiar face in the Dallas Stars will be their first round opponents in the playoffs.

  • Rockies - we should probably talk about the City Connect 2.0 uniforms and avoid discussing our 3-13 record, the 2-17 loss to the Brewers, the fact we didn’t score at all in our series against the Padres, or anything else performance related.

  • Rapids: The Rapids sit at 5th Western Conference after a 3-2 victory over San Diego FC. Their record is now 4-2-2.

  • Colorado Mammoth - the Mammoth’s descent continues and they’ve now landed at 10th in the standings with a record of 8-9 after they were completely outmatched by the Saskatchewan Rush again. They’ll be visiting the Calgary Roughnecks this Saturday.
