Castle Rock Crew #021

Hope you enjoyed the long weekend and were able to relax and recharge, but more importantly, say thank you to a service member and/or reflect on the sacrifices our service-men and -women (plus their families) make for our safety.

Two things I was reminded that I forgot to shout-out…

1) Oo de Lally’s new Emporium location is open…apparently the Belgian Waffle Latte is 💯 and I need to try it ASAP!

2) Petals and Pop had their grand opening this past weekend…they’ve got sodas, flowers, gifts, and more! Check out this fan favorite drink.

Also, Fit Body Boot Camp is offering a 4 for $40 early bird registration as they’re opening up.

Lastly, the owners of Vista Vino are passing the spatula to new owners. The current owners’ last day of operation will be May 31st. Enjoy 20% off all pasta dishes and bottles of wine until then.

First Fridays

Although it’s not technically summer yet (I swear spring just started), we’ve got First Fridays kicking off here on June 6th and I want to make sure you don’t miss it. This will be the first of three different First Fridays (one in July and August as well). It’s an event at Festival Park where you can enjoy live music, kid activities, food trucks, cocktails and a free 5k “fun” run (yes, each time). The 5k runs/walks are unofficially timed runs and are free, but they do require a waiver.

Below are the details of each event so you can mark your calendars and plan accordingly!

June 6th:

  • 5:30pm-6:00pm - 5k walk/run

  • 6:00pm-9:00pm - Those Crazy Nights

Those Crazy Nights is a Journey tribute band that was formed in 2019 in the heart of the Colorado Front Range. Not only do they play here in the State where they were formed, but they tour nationwide and have built quite a loyal following. Their shows recreating the timeless hits of Journey have been described as “an uplifting journey, that surpasses the music, creating a connection with the crowd that feels personal, heartfelt and real.”

July 4th:

  • 3:00pm-6:00pm - Family-friendly activities

  • 5:30pm-6:00pm - 5k walk/run

  • 6:00pm-9:00pm - Ryan Chrys & the Rough Cuts

  • 9:30pm - Fireworks Show

What better way to celebrate our Country’s birthday than listening to a mix of old school country and rock and roll with both male and female leads? Come out and join the fun with Ryan Chrys & the Rough Cuts who have been described as western outlaw, modern outlaw country, or just plain outlaw. This special event will feature additional family-friendly activities before the 5k and a fireworks show after the music.

August 1st:

  • 5:30pm-6:00pm - 5k walk/run

  • 6:00pm-9:00pm - Disco Revue

You’re going to want to go deep into your closet and pull out those outfits you won’t admit you still have (and love) for this one. C’mon, I know they’re still in there…Disco Revue is a high energy celebration of the grooviest era of music and lights up the stage with hits from ABBA, Donna Summer, ELO, Diana Ross, Blondie, the Bee Gees and more!

Whether you’re a music fan or not, I’d encourage you to come out and enjoy these good nights of fun and community. There are plenty of things to do in addition to listening to the music!

All the information can be found here.

Fitness Fridays will be kicking off with a Zumba class as well!

Sports:

  • Broncos - preseason schedule is now set.

  • Nuggets - unfortunately, as expected, Jokić did not get the MVP nod and ended up in 2nd place to SGA, even after a historic season (was among the leader in 4 statistical categories which had never been done). For their short history, OKC has been churning out MVPs left and right. Now, with three different winners, they tie the Rockets (who were gifted Harden by OKC) and trail only the Celtics, Lakers and Sixers in that regard. Adelman has secured the head coaching job after “righting the ship” at the end (literally) of the season. Kroenke feels that they were able to squeeze a little bit more juice by avoiding the play-in and getting to the second round of the playoffs thanks to him. I don’t know about you, but I’m not overly excited about this…maybe I’m judging Adelman too harshly on his uninspiring speeches. In the end, it’s all about results on the court and I guess he did produce. I’m not sure what kind of moves we can actually make in the off-season here with no draft capital, but we’ve got to do something to give our stars some more support.

  • Rockies - record is 9-45…they only have eight fewer wins than the next worst team, the White Sox.

  • Rapids - the Rapids sit at 6-5-4 with 22 points after a 1-0 win against St. Louis. Let’s hope they can extend this winning streak to 3 and jump up a spot or two from 7th in the Western Conference. They face Portland who sit at 6th on Wednesday night and Austin on Saturday night.
