Castle Rock Crew #022

Wide Awake Eatery, LaLa's, and Cars!

We’re getting spoiled with all of these new business openings…I’m starting to knock them off the list one by one…first is Wide Awake Eatery, which opened up this past Sunday. I stopped by yesterday and treated myself to a cinnamon roll and chicken fried chicken…not because I did anything to deserve them — I just felt entitled, per usual.

They’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (depending on the day). I checked out all three of their menus and will have to go back for lunch and dinner at some point. I was not only impressed by the taste and quality of the food (plus the good vibes), but also how reasonable their prices are. It’s an extremely family friendly place with kids’ entrees at just $5 each!

Menus and photos at the bottom of the newsletter.

Check out their website here!

Hours:

Mon/Tue: 7:00am-2:00pm

Wed/Thur: 7:00am-10:00pm

Fri/Sat: 7:00am-11:00pm

Sun: 7:00am-8:00pm

Please stop by and give them a try!

Now, I’m on to LaLa’s this week to see what these delicious looking vegan, gluten-free, and dairy free pastries are all about (they do have buttery French pastries for the traditionalists)!

Not only do we have a bunch of new business openings, but we’ve got a ton of events coming up that I want to be sure are on your calendar. This email was getting a little too long so I’ll go over the others in the future. An update to the summer concert series is that Gavin DeGraw was announced for the July 11th show. The lineup is now complete.

Classic Car Show

Classic Rock Cruise-In Car Show - June 13th and 14th: just in time for Father’s day this annual event has been around for more than 15 years, and is a “must attend” kind of event. Not only will the streets of downtown be lined with over 300 cars, trucks & specialty vehicles for your viewing pleasure, but you’ll have plenty of entertainment options/enhancers on top of that.

Things will get kicked off on Friday, June 13th (oooh spooky) with a free concert with Shelvis and the Roustabouts performing from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. They are known for their high-energy, interactive experiences where classic tunes and modern flair collide. If you want a taste of what they’ll likely be playing check out the promo video on their website.

Saturday will showcase Lookin Back, which is a 6-piece, ‘60s, ‘70s & ‘80s Top 40 classic rock cover band, from 10:00am to 12:15pm and The Atomic Drifters, Denver’s premier hard drivin’, traditional rockabilly band, from 12:30pm to 3:00pm

There will be kid attractions that include free bounce houses, face painters, a rock wall, music, and ice cream!

While you enjoy all this entertainment, you’ll have plenty of options to stay full and well hydrated. Food trucks include La Chaparrita Sabor de Mexico, Castle Cafe (Sat only) and more, plus there are dessert options like Glacier Homemade Ice Cream & Gelato, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and more! To wash all of that down, you’ll have all of your favorite local beverage providers like 105 West, Wild Blue Yonder, and more!

There will be vendor booths with a ton of local businesses that might be offering some deals!

Full event details can be found here.

Sports:

  • Broncos - Demaryius Thomas has been elected to the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame. D.T. was one of the most beloved players and greatest wide receivers in franchise history, so it’s no surprise that he was elected to the ROF in his first year of eligibility. He will be posthumously inducted during halftime in Week 7. Read more about his story and accolades here.

  • Nuggets - vacation time…Adelman has been addressing the media and here’s a look at the beginning of his vision for the team. OKC took out the Timberwolves in 5 games. They’ll face the Pacers in the NBA finals…I think it’s a foregone conclusion as to who’s going to win, as many people are calling our series against the Thunder the “real NBA finals.”

  • Avalanche - we’ve signed goaltender Ilya Nabokov to a two-year, entry level contract through the 2026-2027 season.

  • Rockies - record is 10-50…thank you Barstool for these nuggets - we’ve got Rockies fans starting an exciting losses and infuriating losses counter now…some win comparisons between the Rockies and other sports teams and individuals (Nuggets, Broncos, Scottie Scheffler, White Sox). They actually got a win against the Marlins last night, though!

  • Rapids - the Rapids scored first against Portland, but couldn’t add to their goal count and ended up losing 2-1. They’ve dropped back down to 8th in the Western Conference with a record of 6-6-4. They are favored in their match against Austin (10th) this Saturday.

  • NWSL - Curt Johnson has been hired as the general manager. He was most recently an executive with the North Carolina Courage. Full story here.

  • French Open - we’ve got two American men left in the tournament at the quarterfinal stage. Francis Tiafoe will face Lorenzo Musetti and Tommy Paul will face Carlos Alcaraz (who just had a victory over American Ben Shelton). The American women have been performing very well this tournament and we still have two left after Pegula’s, Anisimova’s, and Baptiste’s fourth round exits. Coco Gauff will face fellow American Madison Keys (this year’s Australian open winner).
