Castle Rock Crew #023
LaLa's, ROCK-IT RUN and Father's Day!
First and foremost, we’re less than a month away from the 4th of July, and I’ve got something for you to put on your radar now so you’re not scrambling for plans at the last minute like every other year (or maybe that’s just me). I caught up with my friend Jason, who runs the July 4th ROCK-IT RUN presented by Run to Change Lives. I’d encourage you to sign-up, volunteer, or even consider getting a vendor booth if you’re a business owner.
I’ll share more details soon, but they’ve got a 5K, a half marathon (with a relay option), a 1K Little ROCK-IT RUN, a Patriotic Pets Parade, and a free post-race concert. It’s the perfect way to kick off your 4th of July—burn a few calories in the morning, then eat and drink guilt-free at the party later.
Jason’s really looking for more volunteers, so if you’ve got time (or a teenager 15+ who could use a little summer service), it’d be a great way to help out. There are also a few vendor booth spots still open, and I agree with Jason that vendors at his events always do well. I left the ShamROCK Stampede with a new chiropractor and a window washer!
In other news, the indulgence continued this week with a stop at LaLa’s to have “breakfast” with my sister (I know, I really need to stop starting the day off with sweets). I think my Dutch ancestors are probably rolling over in their graves because I didn’t opt for the Stroopwafel Milk Tea…oops, guess I’ll just have to go back.
To balance things out (kind of), I went with a black cold brew and split a vanilla donut and a red velvet financier—both dairy and/or gluten-free, so basically healthy, right? Honestly, I don’t think I’d ever heard of a financier before, but I felt very sophisticated ordering it. Both were excellent, and I highly recommend trying them. I also took a few reluctant bites of my sister’s crustless quiche so I could pretend I ate something besides carbs—also delicious. That earned me a few sips of her Belgian Cookie Latte.
Anyway, LaLa’s is worth a visit for coffee, a treat, or even a quiet place to get some work done. The space is clean, cozy, and well worth the stop.

Event season is in full swing, and we’ll be celebrating all of the fathers out there this week!

Sports:
Nuggets - not sure it’s been confirmed yet, but it sounds like the All-Star format next year might see the USA versus the world’s stars, which could be an interesting twist…OKC bounced back to tie the series 1-1 after the Pacers stole Game 1 at literally the last second. I’m torn, but I’ll likely be sad if OKC wins after we took them to a Game 7 and had plenty of opportunities to win the series.
Avalanche - forward Brock Nelson was signed to a three-year contract.
Rockies - are the Rockies getting hot?? They just got their first series win of the season…it’s just too bad it was against the next worst team in the NL…a team whose catcher threw a ball into the pitcher’s head while attempting a throw to second base in warmups (maybe the pitcher’s fault?)…record is 12-53.
Rapids - the Rapids were favored in their match against Austin, but got shut out in a 2-0 loss on Saturday. They’ve dropped to 9th in the Western Conference with a record of 6-7-4 and 22 points. They face Orlando City this weekend.
NWSL - a familiar face in Peyton Manning is joining the ownership group.
French Open - Coco Gauff won her second Grand Slam after dropping the first set to Sabalenka. That’s two in a row for American women after Madison Keys won the Australian Open earlier this year! The last two American men lost in the quarterfinals. On the men’s side, Alcaraz claimed the trophy after an epic final against Sinner — one for the ages!
