Castle Rock Crew #033

Bronze Medals, Rec Recs, and Where to Get Your Next Caffeine Kick

Before we get into it, I want to make sure you check out the events section this week - it’s absolutely stacked with things from Summer Ball, Tunes for Trails, Live Music Weekend at COFF33, Taste of Douglas County, and more — Castle Pines is showing off with Vino in the Village and Party in the Park as well.

Anyways, hope everyone had an awesome weekend — it was great to see some familiar faces at the Firefighters Pickleball Tournament on Saturday. Since nobody asked, my brother-in-law and I came home with bronze in 3.0 Men’s Doubles. And yes, that’s the lowest division you can enter…I’ll definitely be booking a few clinics.

Which reminds me: if you haven’t checked it out yet and you’re looking to get involved, take a look at the Town’s Rec Guide: https://recreation.crgov.com/Program

They’ve got something for everyone — arts, dance, sports, martial arts, and general fitness. I don’t think I’ll sign up to play, but I’d love to watch a cup-in-hand kickball game to see how out of control that gets. No team? No problem — just sign up as a free agent and the staff will place you. They’re adding new programs, too — Adult Inline Hockey just launched at the newly resurfaced outdoor Metzler Ranch rinks — so check back to see what’s new.

Teaology: Your Next Stop

Their site opens with: “There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be diminished by a nice cup of tea.” — Bernard Paul Heroux (some guy). I’m a coffee guy, but fair enough — so I traded my go-to black coffee for two teas: Thai Tea and Palisade Peach. Both were more flavorful than my usual and still had the caffeine kick I need. I’d recommend trying either of them.

If those don’t sound up your alley, there are plenty of other options. I didn’t count how many teas they have — suffice it to say, it’s a lot. You can sit and sip, take it to go (they’ve got healthy grab-and-go food as well), or pick up bags of loose-leaf to brew at home.

Food-wise, I went with one hearty and one sweet: the Southwest Spicy Muffin had just enough kick for me, and the Earl Grey Blueberry was sweet without being over the top (they didn’t overdo the frosting, which I liked). I did make a mistake, though — I stared at the ube and passed for some odd reason…maybe it was an excuse for me to go back.

When I do, I might bring my laptop. They’ve got plenty of space, both indoors and outdoors, so you can post up and actually be productive. The space is fun, too — I spent way more time than I should’ve studying their “Tea Revives the World” map while I neglected my sister…sorry.

Check them out — they just opened. We posted a few photos and videos on Instagram if you want a look. There are a few photos at the bottom of this newsletter as well.

Sports

Broncos - dominating win over the Cardinals at home (27-7). It was great to see our new weapon Evan Engram out there starting things off with a huge catch and run and to see RJ Harvey get his first 6. Stidham…looking pretty good for a backup - he had two touchdown passes to Troy Franklin (whose stock is quickly rising). Ehlinger also had a very solid night so some of it may have been due to a lack of a serious defense. We’ll be in New Orleans this Saturday at 11:00am…then we’ll host the Titans to start the season off on September 7th.

Nuggets - we’ve got preseason coming at the beginning of October which is not that far away…check out the schedule here.

Rockies - Rockies are 35-90 overall after going 5-5 in their last ten…they did show signs of life in the series against the Diamondbacks where they went 3-1

Rapids - the Rapids are 10-11-6 with 36 points and continue to move up in the Western Conference rankings to 7th after a 3-1 win over Atlanta.

Sabercat Football - Mark your calendars! They’ll be scrimmaging Ponderosa on Thursday, August 21st at 6:30pm at home and then facing off against Mullen on August 29th at 6:30pm at home. Check out their schedule here.

Huskies Football - Mark your calendars! They’ll be scrimmaging Dakota Ridge on August 22nd at 5:00pm at home and then taking on Brighton away on August 29th at 7:00pm. Check out their schedule here.
