Labor Day Plans: Hot Air Balloons, Friday Night Lights & More
I’m sure I’m not alone sighing with relief that it’s been cooling down a bit — now let’s just hope that the potential rain doesn’t dampen our Labor Day plans! I’ve yet to decide what I’ll be doing, but you’ll see plenty of options in this week’s issue — even some outside of Castle Rock and the immediate area…check out the “Worth the drive” section at the bottom of the Events section and let me know if these types of events outside of Douglas County are worth including (I put the hot air balloon one in the main piece of content as well).
Speaking of something worth the (short) drive, I had Mashawi Damascus Cuisine this past week — if you remember correctly, they rebranded from Damascus Grill Castle Rock and moved locations a little under a year ago. Word to the wise, searching for them in Waze and not paying attention will lead you to their old location and trigger hangriness…they are by the Library and are right next to Stack’d’s new location. To the important stuff, 10/10 would recommend…we had a little bit of everything — falafel, hummus, and kabobs of every sort (the shrimp was gone before I got to it!). In a rare case of restraint (probably because someone else ordered), I did not have any of their desserts, but I wouldn’t mind trying the Namura the next time I eat there. Head to their Instagram if you want to start watering at the mouth now or check out their menu online.
Labor Day Weekend Plans in Castle Rock & Beyond
Summer Concert Finale: Yachty Got Back + Denver Pops Orchestra
Saturday, Aug 30th at Philip S. Miller Park Amphitheater. Colorado’s favorite yacht rock band joins a 65-member orchestra (they can’t all be coming, right?) for a high-energy night of smooth 70s/80s hits. Expect powerhouse vocals, choreography, and a full production that will have the whole crowd dancing. Gates open at 7:00pm with the dual performance at 8:00pm.

Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off
Aug 30th – Sept 1st at Memorial Park. 70+ hot air balloons, morning launches & night glows, drone light shows, beer & mimosa gardens, food trucks, VIP lounge, live music, and family fun from paddle-boards to skydiving demos. There are literally so many activities going on at this event that I wish you luck in choosing a couple!
Event Info | Free to attend but has available add-ons for purchase

I saw some really cool ballons like a sloth, Yoda, and Darth Vader…but this is a pretty cool shot.

Sports
Broncos - finished out the preseason 3-0 with a 28-19 win over the Saints…was happy to see Nix and Sutton connect for a touchdown - don’t think I’ll ever get sick of that…we’ll host the Titans to start the season off on September 7th.
Nuggets - we’ve got preseason coming at the beginning of October which is not that far away…check out the schedule here.
Rockies - Rockies are 37-94 overall after going 5-5 in their last ten…nice to see them get a couple of wins over the Dodgers last week. As if drinking wasn’t already the main reason to see the Rockies, they’re hosting Brew Fest on Saturday, August 30th.
Rapids - the Rapids are 10-12-6 with 36 points after a horrible loss to the worst team in the Western Conference, the LA Galaxy. They remain in 7th.
Sabercat Football - Facing off against Mullen on Friday, August 29th at 6:30pm at home. Check out their schedule here.
Huskies Football - Taking on Brighton away on Friday, August 29th at 7:00pm. Check out their schedule here.
