Castle Rock Crew #040

More Fall Fests and Drinks, A Huge Comeback for the Cos, the Nugs & Avs Return, and more

Hit Oo-de-lally this past week and couldn’t resist getting their Fall Flight. My rankings of the four: 1) Pumpkin Pancake, 2) Pumpkin Spice Latte, 3) Jack O’ Lantern and 4) Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte…there are so many options to choose from and I definitely want to try their Pecan Pie because I’ve heard such good things, so you know what that means…"I’ll be back." And I want to get some cool coffee art like this next time."

Wow, people are stoked on The Brinkerhoff…the Instagram post I made has ~85k views now…if you or someone you know loves social media, local events, and being out in the community, let me know — I could use some help. I’ve found I just don’t have thick enough skin to handle the negative comments that are sure to come from the keyboard warriors…

Anyways, we’ll be diving into Fall Events in this issue, but if you’re already looking for Halloween costumes or decorations — unlike me who frantically searches Amazon to see what can be delivered the day before — Spirit Halloween set up shop in the Safeway shopping center and Halloween World is now open at the Outlets. Take a look at some Halloween events under the upcoming events section since a few are coming sooner rather than later.

Sports

Broncos - wow what a game…I was getting extremely frustrated in the first half with drops, penalties, missed connections, etc, but the Broncos manufactured a win on the road after being down 14+ points in the 4th — they were 1-112 in similar situations before this win…going for two halfway through the 4th quarter to take the lead at 18-17 was quite the call — personally didn’t like it because all the calls we’ve done like that this season seem to have gone the wrong way, but oh well — that’s why I’m not a pro coach (or a coach at all)...we’re now heading overseas to London this Sunday to face the winless Jets…be sure to set your alarm so you can catch the 7:30am start. I pray that our QB this time around is not doing high knees in the aisle on the plane for four hours…let’s ride!

Nuggets - lost to the Timberwolves who got off to a hot start scoring 40 in the first quarter and didn’t look back (126-116). Game against the Raptors ended up with a 112-108 win…preseason play will continue with a visit to the Clippers on Sunday, October 12 and then we’ll host the Bulls on Tuesday, October 14. Regular season begins with a game on the road against the Warriors on Thursday, October 23.

Avalanche - fell to the Golden Knights 2-1 in their second matchup against them in the preseason. Stars got the best of us as well in a 3-2 loss, but it’s preseason so who cares. We kick off the regular season (schedule here) on the road against the Kings on Tuesday, October 7th. Then, we host the Mammoth (10/9) and the Stars (10/11) before visiting the Sabres (10/13). EJ officially announced his retirement this past week - the Avs Instagram has been full of some of his best moments — here he is hoisting the Stanley Cup….anyone else surprised to see all the Avs proudly wearing Rams uniforms….guess with Kroenke as the owner, we’ll let it pass?

Rockies - buh-bye, Rockies dismiss GM Schmidt who has been with the organization since 1999, including the past four seasons as general manager. They are looking for his replacement outside of the organization. Whoever ends up joining will be facing an uphill battle that’ll likely take a few years to turnaround, but it’ll be a fresh start allowing them to select who will manage the team.

Rapids - got shutout and lost to Real Salt Lake 1-0 this past weekend. We’ll now take on LAFC on Saturday, October 18 at 7:00pm. Season is on the line as we head towards Decision Day, being 10th in the Western conference at 11-15-7 with 40 points…we’ll need to to overtake either Real Salt Lake (40 points) or FC Dallas (41 points) to continue play into the postseason.

Sabercats Football - the Sabercats are now 3-3 after a 20-13 victory in league play against the Fruita Monument Wildcasts. They’ll host rival and league opponent, Valor, this Friday, October 10 at 6:30pm. Check out their schedule here.

Huskies Football - the Huskies are 4-2 after being outmatched against the Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans past week where they lost 56-9. They continue league play this week when they visit Pine Creek on Thursday, October 9 at 7:00pm. Check out their schedule here.
