Castle Rock Crew #042

New Sports Bar "TriFecta", Wide Awake Eatery Dinner, and Dinner Club?

So, remember Pat, the guy handing out full-size candy bars? Well, after half of Castle Rock said they were joining me to track him down in last week’s poll, I sent him a friendly heads-up on Nextdoor. Can’t say I didn’t warn him, but no response. Which is worse, getting ghosted or not even getting the chance to be ghosted?

Finally got around to trying Wide Awake for dinner (I’ve gone for breakfast, which I’ve written about in the past). Really enjoyed the meal. Everything from the food to the atmosphere hit the mark. I went with Leah’s Penne alla Vodka (named after one of the owners), which I would highly recommend, not just for the taste but for how much food you get. Great value. Steak Frites and the Salmon also got thumbs up. Oh, and I stole some truffle fries. You don’t want to miss those, so order a side no matter what else you get. I pulled my usual move of not ordering everything I wanted so I have an excuse to go back. Grilled Artichoke and Crispy Eggplant starters: I’ve got my eyes on you two.

They also bring out bread with chimichurri, which took me back to my study abroad days in Argentina (did you really study abroad unless you tell every single person you meet?). And you should save room for dessert, because this big brownie with ice cream and caramel delivers.

They’re open for breakfast and lunch every day (7am-2pm) and for dinner Wednesday through Saturday (4pm-10pm). Happy Hour is Wednesday through Saturday (4pm-6pm), and they’re doing live music on the weekends. Dueling Pianos this Friday at 6:00pm (ticketed). Need I say more?

Anyway, this got me thinking…would there be interest in a small-group dinner to meet new people and try local restaurants?

If enough people say yes, I’ll test it out with a first dinner and see how it goes.

Would you be interested in joining a small-group dinner to meet new people and build community?

TriFecta Sports Bar, Grill, and Game Room - Game On!

Have been hearing murmurs of a new sports bar opening up in the old Famous Steak House location and finally made it over there. Will drop a reel on Instagram so be on the lookout!

They’re doing a soft opening right now and will be doing a grand opening in the next month or so. Would highly recommend you all check this place out. They’ve got a ton of different things to keep you entertained whether it’s game day or not. And they’ve only got 2 of their 3 stories open right now with the 3rd opening up before the grand opening (they do have an elevator). I spoke to one of the owners, Greg Wischmann, along with a couple of the staff, and you can tell they’re very intent on making your experience as great as it can be.

The 1st level includes an awesome rectangular island bar with a ton of TVs showing anything and everything you want. There are high tops, four tops, and larger tables down there as well. You can look into the kitchen from the bar which is a cool feature. Which reminds me…the food I ordered was fantastic. I started off with some mild wings (I know I’m soft) with ranch which were delicious and followed it up with the Bison Burger with skinny fries. The brie cheese made this burger next level. Also have heard good things about the Mushroom Swiss Burger and I really want to try the Thai Peanut Burger next time I’m in. Somehow a piece of the TriFecta pizza that was next to me ended up in my stomach as well, but I did exert some self-control and skipped the dessert. Saw some appetizers like chicken poppers and meatballs flying around to different tables, so I’m assuming those are big hits.

The 2nd level is where my inner athlete decided to come out to play, or so I thought. They’ve got:

  • 6 pool tables - I wracked em up and broke…and scratched - yes, there’s video evidence of me losing immediately. Leagues are going on now Monday through Friday from 6:30pm-11:00pm. I think they said Thursdays really go off.

  • Arcade games - I decided to try my hand at Buck Hunter…I don’t think deer have ever felt as safe as when I’m standing behind a rifle.

  • Darts - They’ve got a glassed off room that has two dart boards. Things weren’t looking pretty, but after talking myself up I did hit a bullseye which will likely never happen again…and I wasn’t playing anyone. So, yeah. There’s already one dart league/group that shows up in force on Tuesdays typically.

They’ve also got a heated balcony facing west up there, a full service bar, and another more private glassed off room.

The 3rd level, which should be ready soon, is going to be more of a restaurant vibe with a different menu. I did not get up there, but am looking forward to coming back and seeing what it’s all about next month. They’ll have heated balconies up there as well, facing south and west (I’m guessing because I left my compass at home).

Whether you’re looking to support your favorite team, enjoy all of the different amenities, or wallow in your sorrows while watching your fantasy football team let you down yet again (too personal?), you’re going to enjoy this fusion of a sports bar, grill, and game room. And, keep an eye out for their grand opening!

Sports

Broncos - so I really wasn’t looking forward to writing about this game until the final seconds…I mean come on, the Broncos are not good for my mental health by any means. I really didn’t enjoy any of that, even after I heard that the 1,602 times a team has been down by 18 points with 6 mins left before this resulted in a loss or that 33 points in the 4th was a first in Broncos history…I’m glad I didn’t turn it off when I was tempted to…I’m wondering what the fans who left are thinking right now…you were at that historic game right? “Yeah, but I didn’t have faith so I left early…” Anyways, it was good to see Greenlaw in on the action along with Roach. Wait, but Greenlaw got himself a nice one game suspension after the game…Now, we host the explosive Dallas offense on Sunday, October 26 at 2:25pm. It’ll be fun to see how our defense holds up against their weapons like CeeDee, who recently returned from injury, and Javonte, who’s having an awesome year for them after struggling with injuries during his time with us. Oh, and their defense is horrible so we better run it up.

Nuggets - beat the Bulls 124-117 at home last week and unfortunately fell to last year’s champs 94-91, but it’s preseason, so who cares…it’s finally here!!!! Regular season starts against the Warriors (away on Thur, Oct 23). We host the Suns on Sat, Oct 25 and are on the road against the T-Wolves on Mon, Oct 27.

Avalanche - we’re 5-0-1 with 11 points after wins over the Blue Jackets and Bruins. We visit the Mammoth (10/21), host the Hurricanes (10/23), visit the Bruins (10/25) and then have a date with the Devils (10/26).

Rockies - I was going to get rid of this section, but can we just agree we shouldn’t get our hopes up (like at all) until Ohtani is retired…this guy just pitched six innings and had 10 strikeouts and no runs while playing DH as well and hitting not one, not two, but three home runs…what the! Check out the story here.

Rapids - season is over with us missing the playoffs after drawing with LAFC on Decision Day (2-2). Things started pretty decent this year, but it was a season of too little too late and close but no cigar.

Sabercats Football - the Sabercats are now 4-4 and 2-1 in league after squeaking one out in overtime over the Rock Canyon Jaguars (20-17). They’ll host league opponent the ThunderRidge Grizzlies this Thursday, October 23 at 6:30pm. Check out their schedule here.

Huskies Football - the Huskies are 4-4 and 0-3 in league after losing steam in the second half and losing to the Regis Jesuit Raiders (52-31). They’ll host league opponent the Legend Titans on Friday, October 24 at 6:00pm. Check out their schedule here.
