Winter Coffee Quest, Denver Sports Team Continue Their Hot Streak, and more
Thanks to everyone who came out to Sip & Stroll this past week! It was awesome to see hundreds of people downtown shopping on a Thursday night. I’m so glad we didn’t have Wednesday’s weather, and the snow definitely added to the feel of the night. I know the businesses appreciated your patronage, and I hope you had a great time too (I’m sure all the gift card winners did). Here’s a video with some scenes from the night. And, thanks to Mod Mountain Boutique for letting me be involved this year!
If you want to support more downtown businesses, be sure to check out the Stumbling Santa pub crawl on Saturday, Dec 13 from 5:00pm to 1:00am. Dress up like Santa or one of his holiday friends and stop by restaurants and bars like Courtyard Social, Sinners & Saints, The Office, and Hideaway for festive drinks and socializing. The event is in its 15th year, and what started as a small group of friends has now grown into a fun and festive gathering of hundreds of participants! Check out their Facebook event page here.
Well, I ended up getting behind on my fall coffee quest, but I’m not wasting any time getting some of these new winter must-haves from our favorite coffee spots. Take a look and let me know if you’ve scoped any of these out yet…

Sports
Broncos — well, that game wasn’t nearly as ugly as our last showdown with the Raiders. Honestly, it was fairly fun to watch and wasn’t anywhere near as close as the score looked. I would love to see a montage of sports bettors on both sides of the spread when Brandon Jones incurred a delay-of-game penalty that set up the meaningless field goal for the Raiders to cover. I loved how involved literally everyone (except maybe Evan Engram) was on offense. Big shoutout to Prentice on the longest run of his career and a great game — and I think some of that had to do with our big-bodied wide-receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey coming back after a short stint with the Giants. With this win we’ve officially taken over the number one seed in the AFC thanks to our record against mutual opponents with the Patriots (how did they lose to this Raiders team in week one?)…we come back home to see if we can beat the Packers who are coming off a great win against the Bears. We’ll face them on Sunday, December 14 at 2:25pm.
Nuggets — Nugs are 17-6, putting us at 3rd in the Western Conference. We beat the Pacers 135-120, had a ridiculous 134-133 comeback win against the Hawks where our chance to win was at 2.9% at one point, and then handled the Hornets 115-106. After some well-earned rest, we head out to take on the Kings on Thu, Dec 11, and then come back to host the Rockets on Mon, Dec 15. Things will pick back up once the NBA Cup (in-season tourney) is over on Dec 16. Quarter Finals games are being played on Dec 9 and 10 with Semi Finals on Dec 13 and the Finals on Dec 16.
Avalanche — we’re 21-2-6 with 48 points (most in the NHL), but the Stars are catching up with 45 points (they’ve played one more game). All is status quo after beating the Canucks (3-1), falling to the Islanders (6-3), beating the Rangers in OT (3-2), and beating the Flyers (3-2). We’re wrapping up the road trip with a game against the Predators on Tue, Dec 9 and then head back home to host the Panthers on Thu, Dec 11 and the Predators on Sat, Dec 13. Brent Burns now has the 9th most goals among defensemen in NHL history. I think we’re all glad he’s on our squad this year…meanwhile, Nate Dogg continues to do Nate Dogg things like scoring this one from midair.
Rockies — got a new but old face in Josh Byrnes joining the organization as General Manager. He was the assistant general manager back in 2000 when he was part of the organization for three years. He’s bounced around from the Red Sox, Diamondbacks, Padres, and Dodgers, adding World Series Rings to his collection along the way. He acknowledges that the other sports teams in Denver are enjoying a ton of success, but the Rockies are lagging way behind. He’s confident and optimistic that the Rockies will catch up.
