Castle Rock Crew #055
Dinner Club is back + a solid Tri Arts night
Well, I hope your resting heart rate has recovered from the Broncos game by now. Mine’s still getting there and should be back to normal just in time to spike again on Sunday for our game against the Patriots.
Anyways, we just launched our second Dinner Club (now under DougCo Social). This time there's no plus-one option—it'll truly be five new friends at the table. We've already got 28 people signed up. Would love to have you join us. Here’s the new link.
TAP at the Cantril School
I stopped by a TAP Talk at Tri Arts Project this past week, not totally sure what I was walking into, and ended up staying about an hour.
Even if you do not consider yourself artsy, there was plenty to enjoy. Wine, beer, seltzers, cookies, and small bites, plus a relaxed setup that made it easy to walk around and actually take it all in. The artists talked about their work, judges selected three winners, and yes, there was real prize money involved. It might sound like a lot, but it wasn’t stuffy at all…they even have artists going by names like The Reckless Turtle.
I ran into a few people from the newsletter, saw some genuinely cool pieces, and by the end of it I was browsing their January through June class catalog, wondering if I could take a class and take a shot at winning some prize money myself. A boy can dream…

It was welcoming, low pressure, and honestly a great way to meet new people. If you’ve been curious about Tri Arts but haven’t gone to any of their events or classes yet, this is a great entry point.

Their next TAP Talk will be on April 15 and is titled Wild Perspectives. It will explore animals and wildlife through the eyes of Douglas County artists. It’ll have art that’s whimsical, strange, thoughtful, and everything in between.
The event is free and open to the public. Expect light refreshments, artists on site, and an easy excuse to do something different on a weeknight.

Sports
Broncos — after what was an insane thriller with plenty of drama and borderline calls, missed calls, and imaginary ones, we are going to the AFC Championship, baby! I do feel bad for Josh Allen. He’s obviously an amazing player, but just can’t seem to get it done (their coach was unsurprisingly fired).
Anyways, we had to sacrifice Bo Nix’s ankle for it, along with some other injuries, which is a huge bummer. Pat Bryant is likely not going to be back after getting another concussion (I didn’t think the last minute one he got when we clearly had already lost to the Jags could look any dumber, but now it does). Still waiting to hear back on Troy Franklin after he left the game in the 3rd quarter with a hamstring injury. I have seen rumors swirling that JK Dobbins might be coming back, but we shall see!
Jarrett Stidham is going to lead us in the game against the Patriots (who originally drafted him) on Sunday at 1:00pm. I’m not going to lie Stiddy looked pretty good in pre-season, especially with Trent Sherfield who we unfortunately cut and the Pats recently signed. On the other side of the playoff picture, the Seahawks will face the Rams on Sunday at 4:00pm.
Nuggets — Nugs somehow continue to do it without Jok and some of the supporting cast. I’m going to have to apologize to Coach Adelman for my skepticism early on…he might be making a case for Coach of the Year. We beat the Mavericks (118-109), beat the Wizards (121-115), and then lost to the Hornets (110-87). We play the Lakers Tue, Jan 20, the Wizards on Thu, Jan 22, the Bucks on Fri, Jan 23 and the Grizzlies on Sun, Jan 25.
Jokić will be an All-Star after receiving the 2nd-most fan votes in the West (2nd to Luka) and third-most overall (Giannis had the 2nd-most overall). We’re still waiting to hear if Jamal Murray will get his first All-Star nod, but I’ve got to imagine he has to. What he’s done all year with and without Jokić has been incredible.
Avalanche — we’re 34-5-8 with 76 points (most in the NHL) and increased our lead to 13 over the Stars. We lost to the Predators (7-3) and beat the Capitals (5-2). We face the Ducks on Wed, Jan 21, the Flyers on Fri, Jan 23, and the Maple Leafs on Sun, Jan 25. Another milestone for Nate Dogg. He’s now the 70th player in NHL history to reach the 1,100-point mark after this goal.
Rockies — On January 24 from 10:00am to 4:00pm, you can attend Rockies Fest for autographs, Q&A sessions, kids’ activities, and more.
Mammoth — we’ve jumped up to 2nd overall with a record of 4-2 after a win over the Halifax Thunderbirds. Game recap can be found here. We host the Oshawa Firewolves on Saturday, Jan 24 at 7:00pm.
