It’s been awesome meeting some more of you at the DougCo Social Dinner Clubs. We had 60 sign-ups and plenty of people come to the “after-party” this past week in Parker (some photos here). We’re having our next one back here in Castle Rock on 3/11 if you can join us! We have 30 sign-ups so far. Link here.

And if I don’t see you there, I just booked my ticket to Rock Solid’s grand opening event I get into below. If you end up going — look for the guy full of fear and regret five minutes into the class and say hi.

Rock Solid relaunches with open gym and new classes

If you've been to the Village Shops at Castle Pines lately, you might've noticed some construction at Rock Solid. They've been quietly renovating, and now they're ready to show it off.

You might remember them as Rock Solid Sports Recovery. After major renovations, they've expanded into Rock Solid Fitness & Wellness Club. Still recovery-focused, but now with open gym access, more classes, and new services.

Their whole thing is "one body, one place, one community." Fitness and recovery under one roof. Reformer Pilates, strength training, circuit classes, plus saunas, cold plunges, red light therapy, and in-house physical therapists.

What's new after the renovation:

  • Open gym access (they didn't have this before)

  • More recovery services

  • New class formats

  • Body composition testing

  • Nutrition and peptide consults

Their class lineup:

  • Pilates (reformer-based, Lagree-inspired, 45 min)

  • Lift (strength training with progressive overload)

  • Circuit (high-energy intervals, strength + cardio)

  • Sculpt (mat Pilates meets strength work)

  • Mobility (flexibility and joint health)

  • Step (yes, step aerobics is back)

On the recovery side: infrared saunas, cold plunge, red light therapy beds, dry needling, bodywork, and compression sleeves.

Grand Opening: Saturday, Feb 28

They're throwing an open house to celebrate:

  • 8:00am–9:00am: Free 60-minute circuit class

  • 9:00am–11:00am: Open house with gym tours, membership deals, and local vendors

Vendors include SPRAY (spray tanning), Castle Rock Nutrition, Sweet Sweat, and Playa Bowls.

Free to attend. RSVP on Eventbrite if you're joining the workout.

Sports

Broncos — Free agency opens March 11. The Gazette published a list of 10 free agents the Broncos should target, including Breece Hall (RB, Jets), Kamren Curl (S, Rams), and Isaiah Likely or Kyle Pitts at tight end. I hadn't really heard about parting ways with Evan Engram (he has one more year on his contract), but after a lackluster year last season he may be dealt for a late round pick if possible.

Nuggets — we're 36-22, sitting 3rd in the West after a rough post-break road trip. We lost to the Clippers (114-115) on Thu, Feb 19 — Bennedict Mathurin dropped 38 in his home debut for LA. We bounced back huge Fri, Feb 20 with a 157-103 blowout over the Trail Blazers — most points on the road in franchise history. Then we dropped one to the Warriors (117-128) on Sun, Feb 22. Next up: Wed, Feb 25 vs Celtics, Fri, Feb 27 @ Thunder, Sun, Mar 1 vs Timberwolves, and Mon, Mar 2 @ Utah.

Despite the Sunday loss, Jokić had another monster triple-double — 35 points, 20 rebounds, 12 assists. That's his 20th of the season.

Avalanche — The Olympics are over and it's a mixed bag for our guys. Brock Nelson won gold with Team USA — Jack Hughes scored in 3-on-3 OT to beat Canada 2-1. MacKinnon, Makar, and Toews come home with silver — Makar scored for Canada in the final. Canada was also without captain Sidney Crosby, who injured his knee in the quarterfinals — that didn't hurt our chances. Heartbreaker for Canada but Nelson brings gold back to Denver — he's the third generation in his family to win Olympic hockey gold (grandfather in 1960, uncle on the 1980 Miracle on Ice team). I honestly didn't feel bad for our boys on the other side — I've gotta root for USA, right? But no one deserves to be handed a stuffed animal after losing any game, gold medal game or not. Look at MacKinnon's face.

We're still 37-9-9 with 83 points (best in the NHL). Back Wed, Feb 25 @ Utah, Thu, Feb 26 vs Minnesota, Sat, Feb 28 vs Chicago, and Mon, Mar 2 @ LA Kings.

Rockies — Spring training is underway in Scottsdale. Full squad reported Feb 17. Cactus League games started Feb 20. Their playoff odds? 2.78%. But hey, spring training is about hope, right?

Rapids — We opened the MLS season with a 2-0 loss to the Sounders in Seattle on Sun, Feb 22. Not the start we wanted. Home opener is Sat, Feb 28 vs Portland at 2:30pm.

Mammoth — The 7-game win streak is over. We lost 13-9 to Toronto on Fri, Feb 20 at TD Coliseum. We're 8-3, still sitting 2nd in the NLL. Next up: Fri, Feb 27 vs San Diego at 7:00pm.

Noteworthy: Castle Rock's Mayor Weighs In on Massive Development Near Our Border

A developer wants Castle Pines to annex 800 acres along Crowfoot Valley Road called "Crowsnest" — think thousands of homes, apartments, and retail on Parker's southern border. Castle Rock Mayor Jason Gray sent a letter to Castle Pines this week raising concerns that the traffic would spill into an already-burdened Founders/Highway 86, the developer hasn't secured a water provider and could threaten our groundwater supplies, and a full wildlife study needs to happen before anything moves forward. Whether Castle Pines listens is another story — it's their call — but Parker's Mayor Rivero has raised similar concerns. Castle Pines City Council holds an annexation eligibility hearing tonight (Feb 24). Denver7 has more on the story here.
